Our Story: The Movement

GVI Retreat in FranceThis initiative grew from a group of UN staff and consultants in Geneva in 2003 who felt a keen disconnect between the values of the UN and the work and culture of the organization in their everyday reality.  What initially served more as a “therapy group for idealists” began to solidify into an association called Wisdom at Work, expanded in New York as the International Vision Collective, and has since evolved into the organization Global Vision Institute.

In grappling with the increasing complexities of international relations and systems, it has always sought to find realistic and fulfilling ways to stay true to the values promoted in the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Millennium Declaration, the Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace, and most recently the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as related international instruments.  These values include peace, diversity, tolerance, equality, justice, accountability, human dignity, solidarity, and environmental sustainability…

GVI produces publications on substantive issues from a values perspective, and linked to current events on the UN agenda. GVI also solicits and hosts articles by UN system actors, so you can hear your own voice in the conversation.
